I am listening to  The Help.  The setting is 1962 in Jackson, Mississippi and the story involves 2 black maids- and one young white girl recently graduated from college. It details an intense time- dangers they faced when they agreed to write the stories of maids and good/bad white family interactions.  Although a fiction story- there is a real sense of history as you read it. The book is 15 CDs and I am on #8. The readers are excellent. The story line has me remembering where I was in 1962, George Wallace coming to the Ball State campus, the marches, and my first year of teaching (1965-66) in an urban setting.

Exhilarating, inviting, comprehensive, and everyone can or will learn something new.  I recommend this book to everyone, as a way to understand and articulate ways to live and live and live...

Since I got a Kindle at Christmas and loaned it to my sister, who was traveling, and JUST got it back, I am reading a Castle book - the only book available that the Castle series on TV is based on.  I see reading in my future again with the Kindle.

I am reading "Beach Music" by Pat Conroy...it is typical of his writing..has to fit everything into his novels...I am reading it after his "South of Broad" about Charleston, to prepare me for our trip... I had already read "Prince of Tides"

I like Mary Daheim. She writes 2 series. (Bed/Breakfast and Alpine)  The Alpine one has the second word of the title following the alphabet. Makes them easy to read in order.  I am catching up with both series.  Easy reads... there is always a murder- but there is humor involved with some of the standing characters.

Chrissie..I read the Tattoo book and the next one too..the third is out, but I haven't been able to get ahold of it yet...all the Swedish names and places can be tedious, but it is a good story..

Now I am rereading a Civil War novel:  Killer Angels

Remember reading and then listening to the novel when my son had it as assigned reading his freshman year at the University of Cincinnati.   It was really interesting to be driving to work in what were dark winter mornings listening to a very talented- expressive reader.  That was something like 14 yrs ago! I thought the book was excellent then- I expect to find it equally good again.

Finished the triology starting with Girl With Dragon tattoo, Girl Who Played with Fire, Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Next!!  GREAT GREAT GREAT!!  Must reads for everyone.  Thriller, suspense and heartpounding action.

Now reading the new James lee Burke.  MY FAV author!  It is a series about a cop in Lousiana.  Every book is good!  No exceptions and no formulaic (sp?) writing.  Highly recommend.

Summer is a great time to READ!!  Hugs!  Lee
