Odalys, I am coming up on the one year anniversary of the death of my very close friend to bc.
She sounds a lot like your friend.
She refused to believe that she was at the end and insisted on going to chemo. She had to go in an ambulance to the onc's office. When she got there the staff was so shocked to see her.
So the onc took her into his office and said to her, "You aren't getting any more chemo." and that is when she realized. She said to him, "Am I dying?" and he said yes.
She went back home and died two days later.
I miss her very much. Her last summer here she was having trouble walking and we couldn't walk together anymore. The reason she was having trouble was because she was on Xeloda and she had very bad hand/foot syndrome. I can't help but think of it when I am trying to walk now on our same route and my feet are hurting me so from the Xeloda.
I remember her face at the wake. She had a look on her face that showed she fought it til the very end. They had pink everywhere. She hated pink. I went up to her and said Can you believe all this friggin pink?  I promised her there would be none at the funeral. I know she heard me. And there were NO pink flowers at the church. I made sure of that.

Our beautiful and wise Nurse Nicki gave some good advice.

Sending you a big hug.

Love,
g

I am so sorry for the death of your friend, Olalys.  A hostess at my dh's restaurant just told me her sister just passed a couple of days ago.  She had been doing chemo at the same time I was.  I never met her, but we always compared notes through her sister.

It is so weird that someone mentioned chemo smell!  A couple of nights ago as I was going to bed I smelled it, it was so strong.  I've been done for 2 and a half years.  I almost had to get a compazine.

I did see the onc on Wed.  My hemoglobin had dropped, but only from 11.8 to 11.3, not as drastic as it had been doing.  They held the shot, thank goodness.  I have an appt for a bone density scan and mammogram coming up, yeah!

Hello to everyone.  The wonderful Pam (aka mom2cmb2x) sang this last weekend at the "celebration of surviorship" in LaGrange, GA.  Pam -- Thank you for making me laugh and kudos to you for standing up, singing this, and making a difference.  She got a standing ovation for her performance!  Congratulations!

To the tune of "Stand by Your Man" by Tammy Wynette:

Per Pam:  In explanation, our cancer clinic here offers an "October Special, " mammograms for $50.00

Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Doing all those checkups and monthly exams
You'll have bad times
and tell folks you're fine
when they clamp you in a mammogram.

But if you love life, you'll get a baseline
before you're 40 if you can
Breast cancer really sucks
But you can spend 50 bucks
And you can get your mammogram

Get your mammogram
or tell your wife to get one
Tell all your friends they need one
if they want to fight breast cancer

Get your mammogram
Prevention is the cure
Let them squish your boobies all they can
But please get your mammogram!!

Oh my,  just checking in after a short visit with the parents (drove 4 hours total to visit for 2 hours).   LSU plays Florida tonight and they are expecting over 130,000 people on the campus today.  Plus Southern University has a home game sooooooooo traffic is a nightmare.

Sending hugs to all......I did read back and so many of you need to be put in the center of the circle.

Well, you could knock me over with a feather - my mom actually returned a call of mine....will wonders never cease?

Robin, please take care of yourself and rest.

Brenda, I'm so sorry about your mom.  You also need to make sure to take care of yourself.

Lisa, weather looks beautiful today.

Nicki, 2.2 miles is awesome.

Odalys, I'm so sorry about your friend.  I wish there was something I could do for you.

Gina, hugs to you as you approach the anniversary of your friend's death.  I do not want pink flowers either.

Sheri, I have a bone density scan scheduled for the 16th.

Pam, do you get your song taped?

Have to go get ready for a 40th birthday party tonight (wish it was me turning 40 again - my life was so different back then).

Love to all.

Margaret

I just wanted to thank some people for thinking of me during my surgery.

I got a pajama gram from Carynn, aka commandobarbie who is in my Feb chemo cruisers group, flowers and a book from Leah also the chemo group.  The book was Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips by Kris Carr who she said could be my twin.  I am so flattered cause this girl who wrote the book is a hoot and the book is so fun.  I received flowers from my secret pal, a great boob card from LauraGTO, phone calls from Shirley and Cheri.

Thanks to everyone who asked about me and was concerned.  I am deeply touched.
