Paul, astonished, suddenly felt tears welling in his eyes.  For a moment, he thought he was gazing at his own profile in the misty morning glaze.  It was none other, than his long lost brother, Gavin MacLeod, his twin brother!  Beside him, arms around his beloved brother's shoulder, standing proudly and smiling with the crazed eyes of a sea captain, stood Gavin and Paul's father.
He was older than Paul remembered; as his father left home five years earlier to search for his son.

Gavin was Isa's first husband, and as the ship came to shore she began to scream a tormented wailing sound.  Gertrude flew into the sky intending to attack this man who frightened her mistress and sweet mother...

Gavin grabbed his shotgun, and aimed it's barrel directly at the beautiful bird, wings of grace, flying madly to save her sweet Isabelle...

Now, you must continue this story, PLEASE!?   I know every single one of you are brilliant, imaginative writers.  Remember, this story is about a duck, not a chicken.  A rooster might come in handy now, Nicky, or a goose, Wild/Jan,
or maybe...SoCal, what kind of duck was that, anyway?

GERTRUDE AND THE FACTOTUM

Once upon a time, in a forest filled with conifers, Gertrude met a man who would become more than just her factotum. Paul, the man Gertrude met,  was the kind of man that every woman dreams of meeting. You did not have to ask to get things done: he knew when it was time to chop more wood to replenish the stack by the back door and bring inside enough to dry that you would always have enough logs and kindle wood by the fireplace when needed.

Years later, she would reflect fondly on that moment, unable to suppress a smile at the thought of her initial impressions of this man.  Paul Bunyan was an imposing man yet little did she know this was the same man who had been injured so badly in the accident she had tried to put out of her mind for so many years. His graceful gait gave no hint that he only had one leg. The accident occurred while Paul was helping to fight  a big conflagration which was started when Gertrude's pet raccoon knocked over her crockpot.

The cauldron contained Gertrude's family recipe for witches brew...."Double, double, toil and trouble...Fire burn and caldron bubble." The rubiginous slimy muck was all over the floor, making it the most wicked fire hazard. Gertrude could see the flames miles away while riding the finnicular. As she rode high in the sky, Gertrude watched the candent flames cast an eerie caesious light over the sky.

Paul saw them too. He raced down the hillside to his little house, down by the the seashore, and drank an old bottle of Scotch Whiskey, ages and ages, saved, till he was wearing a kilt and a funny little hat.

Isa , came out and yelled, "where is the duck?  HAVE YOU SEEN GERTRUDE. THE DUCK?" Isa's panicked voice startled Paul from his  stupor, he had been deep in thought, carried away by the liquid elixir. He wondered to himself when he had put the kilts and fedora on? The fog began to clear in his mind. With a start he realized... Herman was also missing. "Herman must have Gertrude!" Paul struggled to speak.

Isa knew this could only mean one thing, as Herman's twinkling eye sparked with wit and quick thinking, he slipped into his rubber river boots, snatched his Bagpipes from beneath the bed, and wallowed through the river's muddy shore.  He waded through the blue, silky, rapid waters until he reached the little Island, a place he knew Gertrude loved to swim and sleep.  He began to play, "Go Tell Aunt Jody, Go Tell Aunt Jody, Go Tell Aunt Jody...that her Old Gray Goose is Dead; she died in a millpond, she died in a millpond, she died in a mill pond, a standing on her head."

Gertrude, was a white duck, with fluffy gray feathers, and a young duck, at that...she was going to give Herman a quack or two for that morbid tune; as she snuck out of the green, blue, frothy white waters.Herman dropped his bagpipes and laughed. He knew that song would get her to come out!

Paul stumbled up behind them and plopped down on the moss covered stones and felt a great sense of relief. After what happened last fall, he couldn't bare the thought of losing another. As Herman played the pipes, Paul began to sing.   Isa, dressed in a feathered gown covered with diamonds, pearls, and fairy charms was a vision of ethereal magnificent beauty, her long dark locks of hair, eyes dark and deep as the bluest sea; waded up through the raging waters, listening and humming while Gertrude the duck greeted her with gleeful honks and their new friend, Walter the Seal clapped his flippers happily as this bride clad in gossamer and silken robes from angel's greeted her true love.

This was their wedding day.  Gabriel, Jonny from the Klan, and Jib the Druid Minister of love, joined with no surrendering, never turning back, and although the entire community pretended Gertrude was missing...they all waited and wept, gazing as the charming fairy goddess with heather, gardenias, and tiny rainbow assortment of pastel roses were clutched tightly in her long white slender hands. Off in the distance a boat silently glided across the glassy water.

The only thing disturbing the silent surface was the wake of the boat.

Paul squinted his eyes against the sun reflecting diamond glints off the water to see who was arriving. His heart began to pound wildly, he sat upright as he recognized the undeniable silhouette.

Gavin grabbed his shotgun, and aimed it's barrel directly at the beautiful bird, wings of grace, flying madly to save her sweet Isabelle.

"Put down that gun" shouted Cecily. Cecily had been on Gavin's boat, but no one saw her. She knew Gavin well and also knew his hot headed temper. Gavin, normally tough and implacable, obeyed without protest. Because Cecily had in her possession something very dear to him, his heart. To Gavin, the sun rose in the sky in Cecily, the clouds were able to drift lazily by in Cecily, in fact, she was the world to him, his world. And he was powerless when she spoke to him, his love so great for her.

Suddenly, the crowd let out a heavy heavy groan when a shot rang out as Gavin fell off the bow and into the waters.  Gasping for air, he was crying out and with all of his might , he began screaming..."she shot me! The witch shot me!".

Actually, Gertrude the Duck pooped on him...she had been eating the buckshot Isa dropped as she was about to blow his brains out...once again, Gertrude saved the day.  Isa's eyesight was poor, and when her gunshot rang out, it scared the...

...poop out of her which certainly is not very becoming.
A low rumble could be heard in the distance, it got louder and louder... it was a sea plane. That could only mean ONE THING....

The fluffy gray kitty landed the plane on the island and was greeted by a Hedgehog who spoke to him in a way he did not understand.
As the magnificent feline deplaned the he said,
"The gloom of the sea and the gloom of the sky hung brooding over all.
The seagulls knew, and landwards flew, swooping with muted call.
I wish I knew why cows say "moo", and cats to kittens fondly "mew"
Would  Hedgehogs speak, that 's if they do?"
