This study confirms that young women have cancer that grows at an alarming rate.
YET the ACS at the end of the article states that women should START screening at AGE 40! If I had waited until age 40 my triple neg would have been all through me. Same for my sister- I made her get screened after my dx.

Women need to start at AGE 30.

Breast Cancer Tends to Grow Faster in Younger Women

(HealthDay News) -- While the rate at which breast cancer tumors grow varies among patients, that growth tends to be faster among younger women, Norwegian researchers report.

These findings may help in planning and evaluating screening programs, clinical trials and other studies, the researchers say.

Using a new mathematical model, the scientists were also able to estimate the numbers of breast cancers detectable by mammography. This is a new approach to estimating the growth rate of tumors and the ability of mammograms to find them.

"There are enormous implications for the sensitivity of breast cancer screening programs," lead researcher Harald Weedon-Fekjr, of the Department of Etiological Research, Cancer Registry of Norway, said in a statement.

"We found that mammography screen test sensitivity increases sharply with increased tumor size, as one might expect. Detection rates are just 26 percent for a 5 millimeter tumor but increase to 91 percent once a tumor is 10 millimeter in size," he added.

The report was published in the May 8 issue of the online journal Breast Cancer Research.

In the study, Weedon-Fekjr, and colleagues tested their model using mammography results from 395,188 women aged 50 to 69.

The researchers found that the growth rate of tumors varied significantly between patients. About one in 20 tumors doubled in size, from 10 to 20 millimeters in just over a month. However, a similar number of tumors took more than six years to double in size.

Based on this finding, Weedon-Fekjr's team estimated that it takes an average of 1.7 years for tumors to double in size. Moreover, tumor growth appeared to be faster among younger women and slowed as women aged, the researchers noted.

"Tumor growth and test sensitivity estimates can be directly linked to tumor size in a full population study, resulting in very useful growth estimates directly connected to a biologically relevant measure," the researchers wrote.

"Tumor growth seems to vary greatly between tumors, with higher growth rates among younger women. Most tumors become visible at screening when they reach a diameter of 5 millimeters to 10 millimeters," they concluded.

One expert thinks this study again confirms the need for women to have a mammogram every year.

"This study continues to prove why we need to screen women every year, starting at age 40," said Debbie Saslow, director of breast and gynecologic cancer at the American Cancer Society*.

This is another study that shows that tumors grow faster in younger women, Saslow said. "It just doesn't make sense to have guidelines that say younger women should be screened every one to two years and every year as they get older," she said.

I know, I thought the same thing when I read that article.  It's just like the idiot woman from the ACS, her name escapes me now, who said that the fact that LESS woman were being diagnosed with breast cancer had no correlation with the fact that LESS woman were getting mammograms!!
Ah, you gotta love the lunacy that is publicized.

I have been reading about studies done with those who suffer from Candidas Fungus Infections, how invasive they can become, and how every organ and skin, as well as follicle in the hair, bladder, lower intestinem and even the heart can be silently affected by this unpredictable and incredibly, possiblely cancer producing affliction.

I had yeast infections.  Some on my skin during chemo; earlier, vaginal and who knows where else.  I have had stomach pain since my surgery for breast cancer over two years ago.  Looking for some answers...as usual, I tie into a topic of revelant obsurity, however, possibly a different approach.  How many of you have suffered Yeast, Fungal infections of some kind; usual of the Candidas variations?

Continuing my research on this unobvious and ignored probability to be a simple cureable illness, or become an overall invasive cancer-causing flourishing jingle in the jangle of cancer ignorance or avoidance by physiciansl

It is actually a frightening and curable illness; though, ignored as another sneaky little curd; it can affect the mouth, esophogus, stomach, lower intestine, bladder, vaginal and rectal areas; as well as infect your nostrils, lungs, mouth, teeth, gums, throat and tonsils.  What is this new topic I've stumbled onto?  I have rice-like growths in my mouth, a craving for sweets, and my throat feels like there is a growth or something; gargleing and scraping these "things" off my teeth and mouth, it is new.  The stomach and throat problems began about two weeks after surgery over two years ago.

The skin rash occurred early on during chemotherapy, and my Oncologist eliminated the basic production of  this obnoxious by-product by giving me difulcan and prescribed  baby rash powders for this commonly  induced illness caused by compromised immune systems, malignancies, and filthy instuments uncleaned and sometimes re-used by a tired, lazy hospital staff (staph).  Readinig about this information has me enormously upset.  What are we?  Who are we?  Who are these inhumane monsters we trust, believe in, give our lives to, only to find out later, we are numbers, dollar bills, and futile garbage they would rather neglect than save?

Sorry, peeved tonight...

Indi-I have struggled with yeast for years. I have always felt like I have a moist gut. One that just never dries out. All through chemo I had vaginal yeast infections. I constantly crave sugar. Every minute of every day I crave sugar. I am sure yeast has something to do with it. I suppose if I gave up all white flour and white sugar I would recover. My cravings control my life. I get hives for no reason. They just happen and I try to control them then they go away. Then they come back. Doctors say it starts internally but give me creams to apply. I use herbal remedies to clear my liver. It helps but then months later the hives return. I am rambling. I will stop now.

Have you two tried a really potent form of lacto bacilus that you buy at the health food store? The kind they sell in the refrigerator. That stuff has all the good bacteria that eats up the bad bacteria that causes candida infections.

Also, my gyn says there are many women who have a resistant form of the infection. So he gives a double dose of Difulcan.  You take the first one and then you take the second one I think three days later. The Difulcan is the only stuff I know that really ever works.

I think the reason they don't insist on screeing younger women is because the average age for breast cancer is 50. Don't quote me on that.
However...I think that more and more younger women are getting bc because of our bad environment. So, it seems like it's obvious that younger women should be screened at a younger age and more often.

This may be o/t but cancer is rampant in my neighborhood. Recently, a friend of my dh's was diagnosed with prostate cancer and we learned tonight that he has a very rare form of it..small cell prostate cancer. The prognosis is VERY grim..it's fatal. They don't know how to treat it and chemo doesn't seem to work. He is on chemo now. They give chemo that they would treat small cell lung cancer with. That's all they know. 1% of the population gets this. From what I understand..he won't live for more than a year. This is horrific.

Ravdeb, I am sorry about your friend's husband.
I know what you mean about a cancer neighborhood. Before I moved to this house I lived on a street that had two women with BC ( I was one of them), a man with throat cancer, a man with a brain tumor, a man with testicular, and a man with Hodgkins.
I am glad I moved!

H20.  Water.  What is in the water?   By Jove, have you visited YOUR Landfill lately?  The underground pipes in the old town (and not a very proactive or environmentally intelligent bunch, either.). Thank goodness some Environmentalists, and the (however corrupt) EPA, and Riverwatch as well as the incoming Manufacturing Companies and the TONS of water used by Honda to manufacture cars in their gigantic City (factory is bigger than this town); and all the new Honda manufacturing Car Factories, TRA, and the once bustling downtown area with it's old restaurants, shops,  bakeries, two grocery stores...gone.  The downtown is like a ghost-town.

Walfart, CVS-hit, Walgroin, Low Down Dirty Stinkers, and every FAST FOOD restraunt in the USA has replaced every restaurant that once gave this town a unique and special quality.  People and new trashy homes have replaced the old Victorian homes.  They murdered thousands of trees to put in a wider road, new sidewalks (the old ones were beautifully maintained and lovely to walk on); They blamed the Ancient Trees for their roots as possibly wrecking this cheapo road the town hired workers from another state to install because they charged less.  The "natural" air conditioning, beauty, wind and rain protection, heat enclosures from the missing trees has destroyed the once protected environment.  For years, this has been a regular CHAIN-SAW HAVEN!!!

There is a main Highway and Freeway; The Semi-trucks go by at 70 mph at night; the ground shakes, the houses shake, the road has cracked so many times, the water lines have sprung leaks everywhere!  Water?  Are we drinking that?

Every nieghbor on this road and the adjoining one has cancer; or some family member with cancer.  It was once an area known for it's clean, water believed to be healing and polution free.  The water is gross now.  The cancer in this area is so rampant, people don't talk about it.  I attended Environmental Classes, Groups, Taught Environmental Education and even talked to EPA, Public Officials, the Mayor, and Cancer Survivors.  It is an extremely fragile environment; Glacial waters, springs, and ravines, and thin layers of soil, endangered species of butterflies, birds, insects, wildflowers, trees, animals, reptiles. fish, salamders and praries grasses, rushes and lost species of wild fruit trees and bushes have all but disappeared.

People want to care; now the Big Money Dufous Corporations want to install a waterpark, Windmills for Electricity (this is a Migratory area for thousands of birds, turtles, fish, animals, insects, butterflies and moths, salamders, frogs, and waterfowl).  The Big Money has put the Big Hush on the issues, and nobody wants to lose their well paid jobs and employment; when I first moved here it was rural, farms, trains and quiet with endless vistas filled with wildflowers, old growth trees, red fox, Bobcats, Owls, and an endless variety of songbirds, woodpeckers, falcons, eagles, hawks and the list of natural beauty and fresh air quality was amazing.

It's gone.  In less than fifteen years, this area has been destroyed, and continues to be devasted by Big Farm Conglomerates, Manufacturing Companies, Honda, and trash.  Where does all the Toxic Waste go?  The Local Landfill.
Where does the sewage go?  The water above, and underground; they've made improvements, but who wants to look at giganitic shit-towers when stepping out for a pleasant walk.  There was a beautiful wild area with creeks, confluencing into the Scenic Mad River; It is being torn out; the trees are done-for, gone.  A housing development is being built; as we speak.  The Big and Little Darby Creeks (famous) will be devasted by the damages being done to this area and all the land between here and Columbus, Ohio.

Guess what they (who? I can just guess), building in Dublin, Ohio?  Two (different hospital corporations) ENORMOUS Cancer Hospitals!!! Costing Trillions of dollars to rip out the environment, use Toxic materials to build, Radioactive Nuclear buildings and machines, and where do you think the toxic radioactive piss and shit go when chemotherapy and radiation patients flush the toilet?

And why do they have all this cancer?

Water, Air, Toxic Environment, new buildings using PLASTICs, non-recycleable foam, paper products, microwave boxes, petrolium products, Toxic dumps in the Rivers, that eventually grow our food along with pesticide products, and travel down the creeks, streams, rivers, are consumed by the animals, absorbed by the clouds, and the water...it travels around the world, into the oceans, the plants, the ecco system, and the filtering systems nature provided; like the EVERGLADES...they are dieing.  The Amazon Forests; the Jungles, the Wetlands, and now even the South Pole is showing devastating effects from our dirty little word for this beautiful planet, Earth.

Money.  And these fragile, precious, life-giving creations will never be again.  They are extinct.  Gone.

I am to blame as much as anyone or anything; one would thin the weather patterns and the tremendous abounding Natural Disasters, evolving diseases, and loss of habitat would give humanity a clue:  Does anyone care?

I once believed we loved our world, and life was innocent, and would always replenish itself with new changes in science; I was an optimist, once.

I am not afraid of cancer.  I am afraid of progress, overpopulation, war, chemicals, bombs, and the insanity that keeps this evil CANCER evolving, developing, and in some ways it's less toxic and dangerous than the mico-biogenic yeasts, fungai, bacteria, and strains of micro-viral forms re-creating and eliminating their own subversive pathogens creating and clearing the tracks; the fingerprints; the unknown factors of diseases; like...triple negative breast cancers, perhaps?

Environ "mentally", depressed today.  This house!  Electricity is blowing, and I went "down there" [the basement];  Talk about environmentally stupid-humans!!!  I don't know what will happen, or why I even bother to care.  It's hopeless, the house would cost millions of dollars to repair (properly); and I don't think a structural engineer would give us a permit to sell it, otherwise.  It I was well, I could have fixed ALL of these problems before they began to cause damage;

But shit...I'm a girl.

Sorry for the moan & groan.  I'm not even crying or sighing.
Just wondering how the hell to get the hell out of here, and take the animals with me.  Leave Bigfoot to his Manroot and maybe he will marry a girl with fifteen brothers who run a Construction Company.  With his good luck, he probably will, and the have ten kids of his own.  I'm childless, and if this house keeps crumbling, I'll soon be homeless.  What a pain in the asshouse.

Thanks for the rant.

Love you all,

Indi
