Holy Spirit, our light, our love, and our strength; Be with us now and always.
In all our doubts, anxieties and trials; Come Holy Spirit
In hours of loneliness, weariness and grief; Come Holy Spirit
In failure, in loss and in disappointment; Come Holy Spirit
When others fail us, when we fail ourselves; Come Holy Spirit
When we are ill, unable to work or depressed; Come Holy Spirit
Now and forever, be with us always; Come Holy Spirit.Amen

God bless this place, and be the lintel blest; and bless the hearth and bless the board and bless each place of rest; And bless each thread that opens wide to stranger and to kin; And bless each crystal window pane of support that lets the starlight in; . The peace of man, the peace of God, The peace of love on all. Hear our heartfelt prayers whispered in your ear.

Prayer is so simple
It is like quietly opening a door
And slipping into
The very presence of God

There, in the stillness,
To listen for His voice,
Perhaps in petition
Or only to listen,

It matters not
Just to be there,
In His presence,
Is prayer.

I am double posting this. It is an update to Kevin's surgery. Bluekitten's DH

This is from Katie their eldest daughter.

Family & Friends,

I am using the preset groups in my dad's email so some of you may receive this email twice. I wanted to give everyone a rundown of how my dad's surgery went and how he is doing today. For those who may not have heard yet, the surgeons were able to repair the mitral valve instead of replace it (major praise). He has an incision just below his sternum that will heal faster than if he had a sternal incision where the sternum is actually cracked. Towards the end of the procedure, Dr. Knight (the cardiovascular surgeon) spoke with us saying that they were able to repair the valve to the satisfaction of the doctors. He stated that during the surgery my dad had not bled a large amount, but he was draining more blood than they liked while he was being closed. The decision was being made at that time to re-open the incision to check for any small vessels that may have been nicked. They found a few small bleeders, cauterized them and closed him again. We (Katie, Keller, Kinsey, and Kirsten) were able to see him in ICU around 6:30 pm. At that time, he was on 3 different IV medications to maintain his blood pressure as well as other IV fluids and was showing a fairly unstable heart rhythm. I will admit, it is very different being on the other side of the situation and seeing your parent on a ventilator with 5 different IV drips, knowing those particular medications are only used in critical situations. This morning however, they were able to extubate him (take him off the ventilator) by around 8:30 am. Eddie (my dad's oldest brother) was the first one to see him this morning and was able to talk to him. Kirsten and I were able to go back to Temple early this afternoon and we found him sitting up in a chair, visiting with my cousin, Kristi. This was a HUGE difference from the night before and was certainly a divine work. He was able to sit up in the chair for about 3 1/2 hours and was completely weaned off one of the blood pressure drips. According to him, he only hurts when he moves from the bed to the chair and is able to take oral pain meds instead of IV pain medicines. As far as his demeanor, you will be glad to know that he spent his afternoon throwing pieces of ice at Kirsten so "you'll know I'm OK" . He was even calling a few people and talking on the phone. We are praying that he continues on this path of recovery and hopefully will be able to move to a regular room at somepoint tomorrow. I want to thank eveyone who has been praying for our family and ask you to continue praying while my dad continues to heal. I would ask also that my siblings and I are held up in prayer as well. We all continue to have various struggles related to my mother and I especially, have been struggling with the possibility of losing my father as well. I will try to send updates as my dad makes improvements and keep everyone up todate. For anyone who is wanting to call, you may call my cell phone or my dad's; I currently have both of them.

More Kevin news

Family & Friends,

This will be a slightly shorter update than yesterday's. I wanted to let everyone know that my dad was moved from ICU to a regular room this afternoon. While he continues to improve, he is more fatigued today than he was yesterday. The first thing he told me when I saw him early this afternoon was that he had a "bad night". At some point last night, he lost his "atrial kick" and was placed on an external pacemaker. Essentially, this means that the electrical impulses that make the heart pump were not traveling through his atria; his ventricular function was fine. While this is some semblance of a set back, it is not an uncommon thing to happen after heart surgery. When the heart is stopped, it can take awhile for the electrical kinks to work themselves out. The doctors expect to be able to start weaning him off the pacemaker tomorrow. On a lighter note, he has been weaned off all continuous IV drips and his midsternal chest drain was removed. After moving to his new room, he was also able to lose his catheter. There was much rejoicing on his part.  One specific prayer request I have for him is that he is able to have restful sleep. It is too painful for him to lay on his side at this point and laying on his back tends to induce his sleep apnea. Again, I thank everyone for the prayers that have been offered and are continuing to be offered for our family.

I ask your prayers for Wanda and her caregiver/mother, Sue. Wanda was taken off all meds and iv's this week. Her onc says he believes her body is rejecting them and they are causing more problems than they're solving. He gives her a year--she says she'll beat it! Please pray for her to be able to eat, and strengthen. And pray for her mother to be able to endure to help her. And pray that if she must leave this earth, her passing will be gentle. They stay at the same inn that I do when they are in Zion--that's how I heard of her diagnosis. The innkeeper, Judy, will keep me posted on Wanda's progress, and I will pass it on to you. I am so helpless--but God is Able!

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Father - thank you for your promise.  Please let all of us to see your strength in our weakness.

Amen

Make Me Brave for Life

God, make me brave for life: oh, braver than this.
Let me straighten after pain, as a tree straightens after the rain,
Shining and lovely again.
God, make me brave for life; much braver than this.
As the blown grass lifts, let me rise
From sorrow with quiet eyes,
Knowing Your way is wise.
God, make me brave, life brings
Such blinding things.
Help me to keep my sight;
Help me to see aright
That out of dark comes light.
