My hair started to grow back fast and now it is at a complete stop.
What are you taking to make it grow back?
Is anyone brave enough to post a picture of how long their hair is after chemo?
I need encouragement.
Thank you in advance.
Warmly,
Penny

Penny:  It took my hair along time to grow back.  Came back very sparse, thin like babies hair and no curls at all.  But it did grow back.  I've heard Nioxin helps.  Also remember your hair goes through growth spurts and sometimes stalls.  Hugs to you.

ONECENT... mine was growing really slowly and very thin.  I tried Nioxin and it really speeded things up for me. I was inches ahead of my chemo buddy who didn't use anything.
Hugs

I had my last chemo at the beginning of Jan and mid March I saw hair.
My last eyelash fell out late February, way after chemo.
There is hope.

Biotin seems to help me keeping it on top of my head, I get these high corners otherwise. But mine is much thinner than it used to be....but it's hair

Calico:  I had my last chemo December 2005.  I still didn't have hair on my birthday March 2005.  It is biotin lol, not nioxin. It was frustrating because it seemed like everyone else was getting hair back right away.  Same thing happened to my eyelashes.  I was on taxotere and lost all my eyelashes 6 weeks after chemo was over.

My hair grew back funny too.  More on the left side than the right.  Then more in the back than the front.  I have a widows peak and my crown was the very last to come in.  Hang in there.  I know how discouraged you are feeling.  I thought my hair would come back thick and curly.  It didn't.  I thought I was doomed with thin soft hair for the rest of my life.  Now its long covering my ears and my curls are finally coming back.

BTW!  My eyelashes grew back and they are longer than they were before!

Hey Pen,
my hair has been coming in since my last chemo in December. It slowed down and I wasn't sure why. Had my thyroid checked and sure enough, my dosage of Synthroid had to be increased.
Now it is really growing again.
I will see if someone can take a pic of my hair for you today. Need to get a neighbor to do it.
It does grow back- it just seems to take forever.
((hugs to you))

not just funny growing in, but the colors lol, I was a true Calico, from blonde, to brown to gray, in patches....but what I loved was the softness, baby soft or virgin soft.....until my first coloring job (by a professional) which turned it into dry straw....
but as I said....it is hair....no matter what direction it grows....

Also, I bought gel to spike the few millimeters....it did seem to help with "volume" or at least so I thought......hang in there ladies

I had my last chemo in Dec. 2007.  It took a while for it to start growing back but when it did...I have thick, massive ringlets.    It is growing very slowly compared to a couple of years ago when I needed a trim once a month.

Just a couple of months before my diagnosis...

Just a few weeks ago...

I didn't lose my eyelashes and eyebrows until three full months after my last chemo treatment.  It was quite a shock and they've never fully grown back in.

Penny - We took pictures of my head the 6th of every month for a year to watch my hair growth post chemo (I finished chemo on the 6th of July).  I also took it two years post chemo.  I will see if I can find the disc that has some of the pictures.
How far out are you from chemo?  I just used regular shampoo and creme rinse.  It looked quite short till about 6 or 7 months. Like Bev's culry at first.  I just had my first hair cut since finishing chemo in July 2006 and it is wavy like before, but finer and thinner.  Before the hair cut it was below my shoulders.  There is a before and after pic in Wagons Ho 12.
I will look for some of the early picture for you.  Hugs, Karen

Hi Penny,

I tried Nioxin, but my hair actually seemed slightly thinner afterward, so I returned it (it's not cheap!). I do know other women who used it and seemed to have success - particularly one women who couldn't seem to get any hair growth started at all until she tried Nioxin. Like so much of this process, results seem to be highly individual.

I think Gina gave you a good steer in checking to make sure other health factors are in order. Maybe fluctuating hormone levels are the culprit. I'm certainly no expert, but taking a quality multivitamin/mineral supplement can't hurt. I started taking silica drops to help my skin/hair/nails recover from chemo and give me a little extra support during radiation. Not sure what is responsible, but my hair has grown in a bit thicker than it was originally. Plus, my hair has gone from straight to curly, much like Bev's. I could have an identity crisis!

My eyebrows are still not 100%, so I think some things may just take a little longer than others. Keep the faith and just give it some time....

All the best...

Gina: Your hair looks so healthy and shiny!
