Hi Gina,

Well, I made it. Gonna be brief for now. I'm recovering at my sister's. Surgery went well.  I did have the bilateral with trap flap recon. That is almost too much to do at once, but at least it is behind me.

Patholoy report came in yesterday.  Right breat was precancerous, so I made the right choice in the bi.

Bad news...sentinel nodes came back pos...more surgery will be scheduled to remove aux. nodes and will have chemo also. I'll see my onc on Tues. I'm really bummed about that, but I am so thankful main surgery is behind me...getting stronger everyday.

I'll check by later when I know more...thanks all for everything...Mary Ann

Maryann - Nice to see  you checking in.  Happy to hear that the bilat and the recon went well.  I too did a bilat (with expanders then implants) and the "good" breast came back pre-cancerous, so it felt good to know we made the right decision - and eliminate a worry down the road.
Sorry to hear that the sentinal nodes were positive.  What are they going to do next - an axillary disection?   I hope it will be easy on you.  Chemo is hard but DOABLE!!!  We are here (I first wrote "hear") for  you.  This is a good place.  Good luck with your onc visit on Tuesday.  When you are feeling better, come visit us often.
Glad that you have a wonderful sister to help you recover.
Sending you gentle hugs from Denver,   Karen

PS - how much time are you going to be allowed to take off from work?  I saw in your profile that you are a teacher.  I hope you can take off all the time you need to take care of yourself.  Or are  you retired?  I too work in the schools - counselor/psychologist.  I worked through it all, some good and some not so good about it - but it was a diversion was being a patient all the time.  Hugs, Karen

HELLO MARYANN!

I am glad to see you!

OK- the big surgery part of your program is done.
I am sorry you had a positive sentinel node, but they will take the rest out and chemo will clean everything up for you.

Thank heavens you had the bilat- who would have known about the right breast?

Well, now you have no more cancerous breast tissue and in its place, two gorgeous new breasts! or  NOOBS as I call them.

Rest, heal, eat lots of protein and we will get you through the rest.

Love,
g

Hi Karen,

I am a 6th grade teacher. I had 'planned' on an eight week disability, but now with chemo, I'm not sure how much time I will need.

My school has been so supportive...I'm sure they will continue to be.

My ONC appointment is actually on Wed., not Tuesday.

Hopefully, chemo will be out of the way soon.
