While I have enjoyed reading this article, there are no guarantees that you will not have recurrance. Nor should you beat yourself up if your cancer does reaccur and metastizes!

Agreed, there are no guarantees.  I have taken care of myself all my life...I ate right, exercised, got 8 hours of sleep a night, and I still got BC!  But, nevertheless, I am going to keep doing all I can to minimize the risk, knowing that I still need to be vigilant for recurrence or metastasis.

Side note, someone told me the other day that I 'inspired' her to start taking vitamin C so that she would not get BC.  It took all my will-power to not laugh in her face (or slap it).  She made it sound like it was my own fault I got BC!  Vitamin C...HA...if only it were that easy!

Great article, Gina!!  Thanks!

You would have loved the editorial meeting for that article.
They called me in when I was in the middle of chemo for my new BC, sitting there sweating to death in my wig with hot flashes galore, and they said, "We'd like you to do an article on ways to prevent recurrence."
I wanted to say, "YA GOT ME!"
LOL
That is why I made sure to include how very important it is to do screenings post tx. Finding recurrence EARLY is just as important as finding your primary early.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Cool!  I just saw this and got to read it all over again.  Nicki Dwyer cracks me up.

Gina..I just saw this for the first time today..I guess I missed alot when I was gone on trips!!!  Thanks for this..I think regardless of the one study saying it really doesn't make a difference, diet does...that is why I chose a low fat diet to lose the weight. I try to keep it under 20 grams a day total rather than figure out percentages although I do look at the percentage of fat in the foods I eat..
Right after my chemo, I took part in a UCSD trial where they tried to do nutritional counseling over the phone for breast cancer patients..I had to keep a diary and they stressed the low fat high fiber approach..I guess the high fiber did me in because some of the foods they wanted us to do just turned me off...but...it made sense..
My oncs office doesn't get MAMM, where do they carry it???
