My WBC was 1.7 on Wednesday.  Anybody got words of wisdom--what to do or NOT do?

Hi Fancy. The best way I found to raise my blood count was to eat a high protien diet. I wasn't much for food during chemo, but high-protien shakes worked well for me. When I could stomach it, I ate a lot of nuts.

Fancy- when all else fails, go to sleep! That's my motto!
Seriously, I don't think there is anything you can do to increase your numbers but wait. Eating high protein food is fun but I don't think it really works! Chocolate does!!

Chocolate?  Shall we start a sciiiinteeefic study?  Edge can check our numbers, and.....  Chocolate?  I absolutely LOVE chocolate!!!!  Invent me a condition for which chocolate is the treatment, and I'm THERE!!!!

Last round, I had my blood drawn on two consecutive Tuesdays.  The first Tuesday, after chemo on Friday, my WBC was 1.7.  The second Tuesday it was 21.  So obviously the neurontin kicked in sometime in there.

Pam, is eating nuts a real solution?  I have lots of nuts--I could do that.  In fact, I think I did that last time because I was hungry for nuts.  Maybe that should tell me something.  Anybody hear from a naturopath that eating protein raised your WBC?  I guess I COULD call my own naturopath, huh?  Or my care manager.  These are the questions they have the answers for.  I think I'll do that.  I'll get back to you, guys.

I remember having seriously low wbc's during chemo and not being able to get it on schedule. I just remembered learning in one of my old biology classes that white blood cells in particular need protien to rebuild. It worked for me, but it just may be flawed information. If you do ask your naturopath, I'd love to hear what he/she thinks. In any event I hope your counts stay stable.

Fancy,
don't know how you get those numbers back up 'naturally' but what not to do is expose yourself to lots of people (cold, sneezing etc.).

Hey, maybe chocolate works

Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you!

Chocolate!!!  What a concept!  I think I'm probably getting up there now.  The aches and pains have basically quit, and I'm almost the vicoden.  Gotta get the script refilled--I'll be dealing with this all over again after round three.

Gotta ask about chocolate!  Wouldn't that be loverly???

Hi Fancy,
we chatted with a dad of a little girl (in Disney World) who has a disease (and my pittyful brain can't remember right now what it is..).
She had lots of tumors in her body that destroyed her bones, spine is fused with metal. She is from Canada and did lots of fundraisers for the disease (gosh I hate my brain!!!!).....and all she ever could eat was chocolate and drink chocolate milk.
It made her feel better, probably took the edge of the pain.

I am thinking of her often. So much pain and so young.
Anyhow, enjoy your chocolate

Hey,
maybe Constantine will chime in here??

Could be that it raises Serotonin, the feel-good-hormone, that alone might be enough

I know that dark chocolate is very good for your cardio-vascular system.  I think all bets are off for milk chocolate.  It's the cocoa that's benefecial, and there's not much of that in milk chocolate.
