Get in Shape!

Today we start.

Yes, it is Passover and Easter Week. Matzo balls and Peeps aside, we can at the very least get our battle plan ready!

Today we get organized.

What will you need?

1. A scale.
No use denying it. You can pretend you know how much you weigh, you can lie to your doctor's nurse when she asks, "Do you know how much you weigh?" and answer with a random weight to avoid getting on the dreaded thing. But you are only hurting yourself. In order to lose weight and to track your progress, you have to know how much you weigh!

2. A notebook.
Keep track of how much you weigh. In ink. Write it down and hide the book if you have to. But do it.

3. A garbage bag.
Let's take a trip down to the old pantry, shall we? Open up the cabinets and purge the junk. All of it. Temptation is everywhere. It is a lot harder to get dressed, get in the car and drive to the ice cream store at 11PM than it is to open the freezer and find a pint of Phish Food calling your name ever so softly.... Make cheating hard to do.

Last Item:
Copy this format for your food/exercise diary. Yes. You are going to keep a diary. It will help keep you honest.

Date/Time   Food/Meal   Drink    Exercise/Type/Time Spent

This list includes, breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as the bag of Skittles you ate in the car driving to the deli. Exercise includes a structured workout- the kind you have at a gym but also includes mowing the lawn, running after your kids in the park and vacuuming.

OK. That's it for today.
See? Wasn't that easy?

Just wait until tomorrow.

Before leaving my onc's office I told him that walking has been a trememdeous help for my emotional well being. During chemo I had to be outside because it helped the nausea to get 'fresh' air.....It does not have to be up a mountain, it does not have to be great distances. But what I have found is that while I walk my thoughts sort out and something is going on that makes me cheerful for a while.
While my body didn't always 'think' "whoopteetaaaah I am moving" but instead was creaking and sqeeking (still does btw), my mind surely did

So my thought for today is, have fun with it....around the block, at the park, in the mall.....start with 5 - 10 minutes.....take a partner or not...(hey, their minds will go too....they might just chatter away  (DD is very quiet but after a few minutes of walking, she opens up)
