Carrie, go to this page on our website and read through it
http://nosurrenderbreastcancerhelp.com/FINDING_DOCTORS.html

I will also be happy to research anyone for you!!!

I would only use a breast surgeon and then find out from him three names of who he likes to work with as a PS. If you are going for the bilateral, then they work together. Then ask another doctor for recommendations for a PS. The name that shows up on both lists is your best bet.

When you meet with the PS remember that the pictures he shows you are the BEST pictures he has. Ask for personal referrals- patients who you could talk to.
Find out how many procedures the PS has done and does he specialize in breast reconstruction? You don't want a nip and tuck doc rebuilding your breasts, you want a breast doc rebuilding your breasts!

Love,
g

I don't know about any websites in other states, but if you live in NY or are seeking treatment from a doctor in NY there is a state website whereby you can look up a doctor's record.  The link is New York State Physician Profile .

Gina,
You are most welcome.  Make sure too that if you look up their legal action info that you scroll, COMPLETELY down the page because it can be deceving in that it may say Judgements against none, but then further down the page the doctor could have 5 settlements against them.  Plus, the state won't even put up anything unless there are more than 2 malpractice suits on their records.

At least it is some kind of tool to help access physician's. I really wish the Department of Health would make this site more publicized.

Valerie, there used to be a website that made the legal actions against doctors more public, but they were sued or something and it had to come down.
But I found that the doctor who botched my spine operation  has THREE lawsuits against him where he made settlements ABOVE AVERAGE meaning he paid more than normal to settle the suits.
I never sued him because I got BC six months later and didn't have a brain to concentrate on it. But I had to walk with a walker and then a cane for a long time after he mangled my spine.

Good Grief, Gina!

How do you do it?  What is the secret?  All that you've been through, and you are so full of up-beat attitude, optimistic and so kind hearted...

Oh, I really do think you are an angel, or Glenda the "good witch".
You are AMAZING, incredible, beautiful, and a true warrior princess.

Where's that surgeon, anyway?  He could use a "Hillary Clinton", don't you think? A nice kick in the behind.

I wish you cured, healthy, and NED!  Think of all you will and do accomplish in this world.  You really are a super nova star!  Bright, brilliant, beloved human being...

There's a website for checking your doc's in Virginia too.  You can also check any legal actions and the disposition of them.  Very interesting stuff.

I am on an HMO, but they sent me to the breast surgeon. As far as I know she only does breasts, but I am thinking she does other stuff. My surgeon is a Canadian, she worked with the PS. So I could have one seemless operation. If you are in an HMO, they usually have a procedure of how they do this.

Indi I have been struggling with these same thoughts. I wonder will I be able to go forward and not look back like I finally learned how to do the first time with this beast?
They all told me I had "the bad one" last time... but I was stage 1. Now I supposedly have "the good one" but am stage 3. Why do I let the numbers hang me up so?
Is it because over these past six years I have seen so many friends die who were stage 0 to stage 4??

"This isn't what I thought would happen to me now" Karen Blixen said when she thought she was being seen by the doctor because she was pregnant, but instead was told she had syphilis and only a 50% chance of recovery or a 50% chance of going insane and all her dreams of children were now taken from her.

I know I lived the first two years after my first diagnosis always waiting for the next arrow and never trusting anything. I didn't even buy new clothes and I gave away a lot of my furniture and antiques thinking I needed to clean out. Then I found out I had to move and I needed furniture and had to then BUY new. I decided to start living like I was living then and let my closets get messy again and dream about the future.

I know when I am finally done with treatments I am going to force myself to try to be that person again. The beat up worn out scared cancer person in me now whispers in my ear that IT will probably be back by then... but I can't look at it like that. I have to keep moving forward and while I do grab as many sister soldiers with me and by word or voice or internet somehow we will break down the walls to all the questions you asked above and find out WHERE is our cure? And DON'T give us a pink ribbon and tell us to go away. WE WANT TO KNOW NOW. And we aren't going to go away.

This time when I am done with tx I am going to be more active and break through the force field that is surrounding this disease and I am going try to save as many of my sisters as I can.

I have had enough.
I have seen too many die.
I am mad and I want someone to pay.
And they will- and God willing- those who come after us will benefit from it.

When I imagine being in a foxhole  fighting this system I see you next to me fighting just as hard. And that is how I know we will win.

Love you.
g

Beautiful Dreamer, Gina,

You are likely the ideal woman, soft hearted, well spoken, good hearted and born with the old sole of a sailor, a warrior, a queen, and a leader who leads her fellows to love, kindness, and a world of peace.

Where ever you go, I will follow.  Thank you for knowing me and so many others who know you, knew you and will know you always.

You are a beauty, in so many definitions.

Thank you for being, thank you for pulling my heavy heart out of the deep blue sea.

love you too,

Indi
