"You Have Cancer"

The fear is so paralizing, overwhelming and numbing.  Fear and terror so far has been the most prominent feeling I am feeling. I started thinking after a few days in my bed with the covers up to my neck and my family and sisters here holding my hands and saying loving words of support others are feeling just like me. I am not the Lone Ranger.

Today forward I am going to battle fear which is the beast best friend.

The beast likes it when we are frighten out of our minds unable to move forward or make decisions, speak up, sleep, eat or rest. It weakens us and makes us feel powerless. It makes me and you unable peroid.

Well meaning friend said: "well no sense in fretting it won't help." Me: "Oh okay thanks! Now tell me how?" Well meaning friend: "Just don't think about it"  Who are these people that can do that? They are emotional mighty mouses. I could never master the Just don't think about it thing. I put it right up there with telling some one don't cry.

For now until I get better at this I am also taking drugs, no not street drugs, Lorazepam. I didn't want to, and at first was disappointed in myself for needing something to push fear and terror back. But it is what I need to take my first steps out of the clutches of fear. So if you have gone in the fetal postion and pulled the covers over your head like me, maybe we all can help each other one minute , one hour, one day at a time to climb out of the dark place.

Do you walk, say a prayer, repete a quote to get you through a difficult moment day or year please share with me.
Do you need a cyber hand a word a touch to your soul. Maybe I can help you too.

I found some comfort in these words today. It made me remember that God knows how frighten we are and I am asking
God right now today to take my fear.

Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

Dearest Carrie,

It is just like you, isn’t it Carrie, while having been flattened by your own fears, to stand up and reach out to comfort others who may be feeling the same way.  YOU are truly amazing and oh so worthy of the constant flow of prayers and healing thoughts that are coming your way.

One of my favorite hero mothers, Eleanor Roosevelt, said this many decades ago:

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along’.”

I tend to become irreverent and cuss when fearful.  But I will be a lady and just quote something naughty that Eleanor Roosevelt also said on a lighter occasion:

“I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall.”  LOL

Carrie, please know that you will remain in my thoughts and prayers every single day until you have completely healed from this invasion into your body's sanctuary and into your mind’s tranquility.

I love you,

seychelles

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am your Lord, your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead".
Isaiah 43:1-3

I found comfort in these words tonight that God himself has called us by name, We are his. He has written our name in the palm of his hand.

Peace be still and know that I am your God.

If you are going through scary times today try repeting this to yourself. Maybe it will help calm your nerves. I am going to try it today. also going
to take some cd's for the techs to play for me while I am in the machines.
I think some Frank Sinatra may be going too lol
Love,
Carrie

Carrie,
that is a quote from the lady that wore Lipstick to her mastectomy ("Why I wore lipstick to my mastectomy" was the title of a book/movie, forgot the name, you probably know and Gina knows her. Thought that was good to repeat during a scan.

Carrie-
Loved that verse about going through the fire...God gave me that verse the morning I started rads and from that point on I had the assurance that the fire (rads) would not burn me...
I have found comfort in the following song

love and prayers, my sister--

My mother (who had 3 cancers in her life (breast, uterine, lung)) had this little plastic card. She lived to be 85. It was given to her by the chaplain. I found it when I cleared out her things at the nursing home where she lived the last 4 and a half yrs of her life. I was diagnosed 2 months after she died.

On the one side it has handwriting that says: May you feel God's presence each and every day. The other side of the card there is print that says:  Lord, Help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and I can't handle together.

I carried the card with me through 4 ACs, 12 Taxols, and a year of weekly Herceptin. It is always in my purse now...and in my pocket at those scary appts. I touch it and it is like I am holding my mother's hand. That is my Fear Buster- or at least fear reducer!

Omy gosh I love those each one of them I think I am going to copy them and hang them on my bedroom wall so I can read them at night when it is quiet or in the early morning when the fear is the worse.

I love you all so much.

Carrie, the verse you posted from Isaiah was one I found when I was first diagnosed.  I came home and picked up my Bible - amazing the places that God led me to read.  That held so much meaning for me.  Psalms spoke to my heart also.

Isaiah 46:4    Even in your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you.  I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Psalm 145:18 The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, in all who call on him
                        Sincerely.

Joshua 1:9   Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged;       For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Carrie, Joshua and the two verses from Isaiah really helped me.  Holding you close, sending you much love.

Carrie, I am sure you have heard this - it just had a very special meaning to me.  I love it to this day and it fills my heart still on very difficult days.  May it hold a special
meaning for you and give you strength and courage for the days ahead.

Refuse to fall down.
If you cannot refuse to fall down,
refuse to stay down.
If you cannot refuse to stay down
lift your heart toward heaven
and like a hungry beggar,
ask that it be filled,
and it will be filled.
You may be pushed down.
You may be kept from rising.
But no one can keep you from lifting
your heart toward heaven — only you.
It is in the middle of misery that
so much becomes clear.
The one who says nothing good came of this,
is not yet listening.

a prayer - clarissa pinkola estés
