....read a series in order?

I hate reading books out of order, myself.  I always feel as though I'm missing something, some part of the backstory that I really need to know to fully enjoy the current book.  Is anyone else this completely anal??

I'm also getting to the point, thanks to a great book swapping site, where I want the entire series at hand before I begin reading.

Anyway, if you do like to read books in order, my favorite web site to help with that is:

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk

If you look up an author's name, it will list everything they've written, and they will list the series, in order.  But be warned: it's a British site, and sometimes titles for the same book vary between here and the UK.  Quite often they will list both titles, but sometimes they don't.

I'm thinking I need to take a break from murder, and start something totally different, like fantasy.  Fortunately, I have 3 complete series sitting here in the house!

yes and it opens up a whole can of worms ....recently went to read an old harkequin book found out it was third in a series...ordered the first two they were each recurring characters from previous books of the authors etc. etc. still trying to start the whole thing at the begining finally got the last book (i ususally buy used at amazon) and the whole bunch equals 13 books...but now that i finally got them all i have a pile from the library that have to be read first so they can be returned...oh well...see i told you its a sickness!!

Susan,

I think we're kindred spirits!! That sounds JUST LIKE my life...

I work in a library, and I still buy books, or more recently swap them.  Have you heard of PaperbackSwap?  It's a great web site for people to exchange books.  If you are interested, let me know and I'll give you more info.

I just got a book from a swap called "The Laughing Jesus : religious lies and Gnostic wisdom"...it sounded interesting, so we'll see.

Maybe we should start a chapter of Readers Anonymous?
