Hey Stacy girl!

No that does not sound bad at all!
I have nodules on my thyroid. I had them biopsied and they are fine. Many people get low thyroid after BC. You may need synthroid. But it is OK- it helps with getting your hair to grow back and with losing the chemo weight.

I also have had a lung nodule since 2002. They think it has always been there. My doc said if they did scans on 1000 people- both with cancer and without, most of them would have a nodule or two on their lungs. Your doc will watch it over the years to make sure it doesn't change. That is what mine does.
This is what is so great about baseline scans... they know NOW you had this so 10 years from now when they do a scan and see a nodule they can go back and say- Oh yeah, that was already there!

I was so happy when my hair came back on Abraxane but was SO PISSED when it came out again once I started the Xeloda. But you know what? I had my last chemo at the end of December 2007- so a year and  month ago... my hair is to my shoulders now!

Keep up the good work girl! You are almost DONE !!!

Love
g

Gina,

Thanks for the quick response. I have been on google and am not worried. I'm just glad to know these things, like you said. I can keep track of them if they change over the years.
I would be sooo mad/crushed to lose my hair all over again. I'm not expecting to keep my lashes when they come back. I've heard too many stories of losing them more than once. I'm starting to feel them a little, too. I have sparse eyebrows and just fill them in with a brow pencil. It's not obvious and makes a big difference.

Hi Stacy and G,

I'm doing pretty well. Thanks for asking. I too have a little stubble on my head that is wonderful!!!! I have a treatment on Friday and then ONLY 1 LEFT!!!!! I am so looking forward to finishing this up. Stacy sounds like your hanging in and doing well we should be celebrating about the same time. I am in process of making the appointment for radiation hopefully I'll be eligible for the 3 week version(I hope). The only complaint is the joint pain I have recently started with the glutamine powder so hopefully that will help. Both my fingers and toes are numb but IT IS ALMOST OVER!!!! By the way I too have no eyebrows or lashes. I'm so glad to be near the end I do not care.

Stacy, you won't have to worry about losing your hair. Mine came out again because of the Xeloda. But I did lose my lashes 4 times. But EACH time they grew in thicker than any lashes I ever had in my life.  My brows grew in overnight- I swear! I woke up and Boom! there they were!

Natalie! Hey girl! Yep, the joint pain adds up towards the end. But it isn't permanent. It will go away.  When you are ready to do the rads, make sure you insist on getting a cream called Biafine RE. It prevents rad burn.

You two are going to be old hands pretty soon! I am so happy for you both!

One more Abraxane left. My Onc. thinks my white cells might delay the last one. We'll see. They have been just high enough to get chemo. I hope they hold up for next week.

Still no P.S at the University. Damn!!! I don't know what I'll do if I can't start reconstruction at the time of surgery. I'm on Medicaid and there are no P.S in Iowa City that take it. I'll probably have to go to Des Moines, 2 hr. drive. I was so hoping to have the team of Dr. all be at the same hospital. I'm stressing about this.

I'll see my B.S. in a couple of weeks and get the details of surgery and options of reconstruction.

Natalie - I know what you mean by just being glad it's almost over. I still need surgery, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. FINALLY!!
This had been a long winter. I'm glad it's almost over. Best wishes for you.

One more? That is GREAT Stacy!
I am sorry you are having trouble finding a reconstructive surgeon.
There is an organization that helps women whose insurance will not cover recon- it is called My Hope Chest that has doctors who donate their time.
The link isn't working right now, I will find out how to get you in touch with them.
Big hugs,
love

Stacy,

Officially today I have one more also. I can't wait. I'm sure you will get your recon without much problem. We have come to the end of the really hard part and although it's not completely over THANK GOD we are not where we started. Good luck to you and soon we'll celebrate.

Thanks Gina - I will check out My Hope Chest. Let me know when I can.
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY, last Abraxane. Well, actually I will get labs today at my local hospital to check my white cells and fax the results to my Onc. They have been just barely high enough for chemo over the last few weeks. If they are too low I will have to wait. My Onc. is out of town next week, so it will be on Mon. 3/23. I hope I can get this over with tomorrow. MRI in two weeks and consult with surgeon to follow. I'm nearing the end.
My hair is coming back. Slowly. Yeah!!!
You might be done a little sooner than me Natalie. Congratulations and Good luck to you, too. It has seemed like such a long time ago that this all started.

Stacy,

You are definitely beating me to the finish line. My last will not be until 3/20. I am finding a little more fuzz everyday and am so excited. I have actually started to see eyebrows returning slowly but surely. This part reminds me of spring with all new beginnings.

Hi Chemo Comrades,  what a relief you are through with it almost!   Yea!  Stacy, something good is going to work out with the reconstruction.  You can take your time and get the right surgeon and the right situation -just let it unfold while you picture an adorable bosom and a beautiful head of hair.

Mine hair is coming in, too - I have had 6 out of 12 taxol treatments, and it seemed to start coming in about two weeks ago.  I look like my grandaughter, who has about as much hair as her father - who shaves his head!  the three of us are a sight.

My toes are numbish, though.  it is weird.  I have been taking the A. L-Carnitine, and B6 and some glutamine, but not a whole lot.

Thank God for modern science and all the second chances I have had - Love, Mary

Well, my white cells are too low for chemo today. So, my last one will be Mon. 3/23. I meet with my BS on 4/1, April Fools Day. I wish this could be a very bad April Fools joke. Not funny, right?
Anyway, I've been sick so I'm going on an antibiotic today. No high fever, just sinus issues and a cough with mucus. I can't taste/smell anything. I should be able to lose some more weight through all of this. I find myself still eating stuff that I shouldn't, not too bad, but what's the point if I can't even taste it?

Natalie - You're going to beat me now.Spring is just around the corner. It has always been my favorite season. More now than ever. A new beginning for so many reasons.

Mary - I am so excited to be getting hair, too. Don't you feel like it's been forever? I keep dreaming about having hair. Bad, fuzzy, curly hair. I am starting to get anxious about the different stages it will go through. My sister-in-law says I look like a baby, and wonders if I will get a bald spot on the back of my head like babies do. Too funny. She also asked if wearing a hat will cause my hair to grow slower. My DH said where my hats lay on my head in the front my hair is the shortest and thinnest. Now, they have me wondering if it's true.

Will wearing hats all the time keep my hair from growing faster/thicker???

I am sorry you missed your chemo today Stacy. I hope you feel better. Don't worry- you will be done soon.
I used to dream of hair too. I don't know if hats slow down the hair growth. Your follicles are going to do what they have to do. BUT you CAN wake them up with NIOXIN shampoo. It helps with hair growth because it stimulates the blood supply in the scalp. That is something I used and also I would massage my head while watching TV at night.

I have something exciting to tell you all- the FDA has just approved a product to help grow eyelashes! I don't know if it will help speed up the growth in chemo patients, but I am going to find out all the info for you!

Stacy, Mary is right- GOOD things will work themselves out with your recon. I just know it. Remember- you are entitled to recon BY LAW!

Mary, the feeling will come back soon to the toes. I remember my whole foot was numb and I had to have surgery. They put the IV in my foot because I have had both sides of lymph nodes removed. I didn't feel a thing! Then, about 6 months later- when the chemo was out of my system and the feeling had returned to my feet, I had another surgery and BOY did I feel the IV!

Natalie- it sounds like you are sprouting like crocuses! It is ALL good!!!

You guys hang in there!!!!

my fever got up to 101.4 yesterday. ER visit. CBC was OK. Back home. I have a sinus infection. I'm just glad I didn't have to be admitted. My face/head hurts.
I have done pretty well all throughout my chemo journey. Now that I'm so close to the end, it's messing with me. ONE MORE!!!!! (3/23)

I'll definitely look for that shampoo. Thanks, Gina. Is it OTC?
Natalie - Our last one is going to be 3 days apart. Yea!!!!! 3/20, the first day of Spring. A day you'll always remember!!!!
