Hi everyone,

On Friday, I met the most wonderful little four year old boy who is a cancer survivor.  I thought he was 2 but he's actually four.  I'm going to post the story that was run about him in our local paper.  If you can, would you send him a card?  Guys, my heart melted when I walked beside him and his dad during the survivor lap.  He is grade 4!  I plan to keep in touch with him and his family now.  The address is near the bottom of the article.

Thanks bunches!  He has such a wonderful family.  He just finished his chemo, stem cell transplants and rads.  His dad said he still had a feeding tube but is doing pretty darn good considering what he's been through.

Area Boy Is Receiving Treatment at Hospital

Four-year-old Nathanual Delaney was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is receiving treatment at the OU Children's Hospital.

Nathanual became sick last fall and was taken to OU Children's Hospital where a CAT scan was performed showing a mass on his brain. A few hours later surgeons were notified and the brain surgery was performed on Sept. 11. The tumor was diagnosed as Large Cell Medulla Blastoma Grade 4.

The tumor was unable to be completely removed during surgery because it was wrapped around the brainstem.

Nathanual was in the hospital for 11 days and didn't talk for a little over a month after the surgery and couldn't walk for almost two months.

His speech is getting better and although his right side is still weak, he is still using it. His walking, while unsteady at times, has greatly improved as well.

He had a central line placed in the left side of his chest, which is two lines that were used to harvest his own stem cells and is used to administer his IV fluids and other nutrients and medicines.

He has undergone 30 rounds of radiation treatments at the OU Children's Hospital and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and stem cell transplants which he started on Jan. 4. He has been in the hospital since that time and will stay until the first of February.

He will have three more chemo treatments and stem cell transplants. He's also had four blood transfusions so far and he is expected to have more during treatments.

The family has received overwhelming support from the people in Tonkawa, Blackwell and Ponca City. Other events have been held to support the family.

There is currently a medical trust fund established at First National Bank in Tonkawa and Ponca City.

Other cans have also been placed at businesses across town.

He also loves to receive e-mails and cards from those supporting him. He can be reached at csjn@cableone.net and cards may be sent to Carpet Specialties, 200 West Grand, Ponca City, Okla. 74601
