I, for one, need to get back on track since this surgery has had me on the DL for almost 7 weeks now....
I don't know if I can swim again, but I will start with the bike and walking.
Also, dancing. Alone. Like a nut. In my den.

Me too!! I dance in my room all the time. I turn up the stereo, lock my door and dance away. I love it because I can't hear anyone calling me even if they are banging at the door. They know now, when the music is playing don't bother mom..
I started my workouts again at the gym and walking around town.
The first Monday after my radiation was over was the first time I went back to the gym in over 2 years!!
I realized it hadn't changed much at all and many of the same people are still there and they were happy to see me
I LOVE the sauna, it makes me feel good and I swear I lose weight using it. It may be water but who cares? I've been bloated for months so water loss is good as long as I keep hydrated which I've been doing these last 3 times. Plus my skin looks so much better and all glowing.. lol
My radiated skin is looking so much better and the sauna does not seem to be bothering it at all...I just keep it moisturized .
It's more then just the physical benefit, much more. Going back I feel "normal" again and like myself. It's like no time has passed and I never had breast cancer. When I am there I don't think about it at all. That's the best part of it for me...
Well to be honest, I don't mind how my butt looks when I exercise, just being honest. lol

Gina, do you belong to a gym? I thought of you today when I walked in.  I passed by the pool and saw all the women doing water exercises, and thought of our Gina.  I go to LA Fitness in Lake Success. I wished you were there, I would love to work out with you. I get bored talking to my girlfriend who has no clue how tough it was to get back into it again..ya know? Plus there are so many superficial folks walking around totally naive, but good for them I guess, it's not their fault, I was once like them.
I want someone who gets it, someone I can relate to, one who understands,  someone honest and strong...well, that would be you!! Come work out Gina girl, when your ready, I'll wait for you!!

Cali, I do that too! Some mornings when I drive my son to school and I have some time, I drive around the neighborhood with the music blasting. Music really soothes the soul, doesn't it?? Not to mention, calms the beast!!

I am so in!!

GINA ...
Thanks to you for being on top of this as you always are with everything. Thanks to Feeling Fine in 2009 I lost about 18 pounds (I think). I did gain a bit back through my own fault but hopefully 2010 will bring me to my goal weight. I tried your suggestion of  BRAT diet except that I cannot stand bananas so it was more like a RAT diet .  It still helped a lot. Still worries me though that I have no dx and wondering if I will get hit with this again. At least it forced me to eat healthier as I drink mostly water and herbal (decaf) tea now istead of coffee and diet pepsi. The caffeine withdrawal was awful (headache etc) so I will not be going back to that anytime soon. I switched to decaf now and although I disliked it at first I have gotten used to it. I have a special treat on weekends and mix half regular and half decaf for my morning computer time coffee. I also have lost 8 pounds since this all started so if I am smart I will keep that off and lose the next 8 that will bring me to 2 pounds below my goal weight at WW. Also I got rid of my "fat" clothes which basically gave me permission to put weight back on. So now I know if I put any on I will have basicallly nothing to wear!

JENNINE... I hear you on wanting to go to a gym where people "get" where you are coming from. A friend of mine (also a bc survivor) is opening a fitness centre which will be geared to survivors. It will have a small sauna as well as yogo and pilates sessions. I think we are all clueless until we have "been there" and this journey makes us more aware of what's important (such as fitness rather than looks). Funny you think of G when you go by the pool ... a friend of mine brought me to a sauna in the community centre in a nearby town. I saw the pool and immediately thought of G. I am NOT a swimmer as I sink like a rock but I remember thinking if G were here she would be loving it... wishing I were more like her. You are so lucky to be so closeby!

JENNI ... CALICO ... INDI ... hoping we can do this together again this year!! You guys inspired me to try that much harder.

So .... what day of the week do we "weigh in"?? I am so ready to get started!

Hugs!
Cheryl

Look at all these dancers!

Jennine, I can't believe how close we live to one another and we haven't met!
I don't know LA fitness. I belong to the lowly YMCA. Oh, I wish I could swim again... EVER again.

I looked up LA Fitness and I can print up a free guest pass- maybe I could meet you there one day when I can move again?

Whatever day you all want to use for the weigh in is fine by me!!

Cheryl, I hate bananas too...
you know IBS can pop up and then disappear again too.
Definitely try the metamucil wafers - a packet after dinner. Drink plenty of water, and it should help with cramping, looseness, etc.

Hi everyone!

I gained a few lbs over the holidays but was pretty good.  I'm 20# down from chemo.  I'm still having a hard time with dialing up the intensity of my workouts. My oncologist wants me to have another echo because I received the avastin/AC+T combo that was deemed dangerous to the heart.  I've been putting it off... I have scanxiety.

Regardless, I'm exercising (mostly walking) everyday and am eating a mostly vegetarian diet.  (And doing Edge's CAM plan.)

Hope everyone is doing well!

Quite the group we are!!

Thanks Gina for the advice. Right now I seem to have gone the other way
Nothing today and I feel awful. My friend has Krohns and she says it still sounds like IBS to her.

We have a new weight loss centre here called Herbal Magic. It's kind of a mix of Weight Watchers and CAM. I am going for a free consult tomorrow .. they say we are guaranteed to lose 2 pounds a week. If it's not too expensive I may join. for a month or so just to get the last stubborn pounds off. I will of course bring back any good information for us all here

Hugs
Cheryl

Yes Gina,
Meet me there. I hope you can swim again, I really do, but if you can't for a while...there is a lot you CAN do.
You can meet me there. I PM'd you my phone number.
When your better, when you feel up to it, I am here.

It was not easy getting back into my old routine. I should really say, "this is going to be my new routine!" I wish I could program my mind so I would slowly move back into what I used to do. But NOOOO my mind goes to,
20 mins this, 15 mins that..and I'm huffin and puffin all the way. lol
But no matter what it is, walking, dancing, swimming, whatever..
Be proud of what you accomplish because your not in competition with anyone, well, only yourself  At least I am...oh no...
But truthfully, consistency is the key and moderation of course..
Lots of love,
Jennine

Cheryl, I would be wary of any diet like that before you know what is wrong with your tummy...

Jenni, those braces sound like a pain in the butt! It really will be a good way to stop  between meal snacks if you have to go through all that!

Jennine, I pm'd you... I SO know what you mean about watching the clock thinking, 15 minutes is enough, right? LOL

Michelle, down 20 is great!! I did a muga. It was kind of cool to watch on the screen!

hi Socal!
hi Indi!
hi Cali!
